Getting there
Stepantsminda is about 150 km north of Tbilisi on the Georgian Military Road — around 3 hours by car, marshrutka or private transfer.
When to go
June to September for hiking and valleys. December to March for snow; some roads like Truso and Juta close in winter.
How long to stay
Two to three nights lets you see Gergeti, one valley (Truso or Juta) and Gveleti or Dariali without rushing.
What to bring
Layers, rain jacket, good shoes, cash in GEL, and your passport for border-zone valleys.
